SUMMER VACATION

This weekend was my first of summer break.  I have been fasting since the 16th of June, and on Sunday had reached day ten.  I wore myself out by working for the previous week during the fast, and am paying for it now with extremely low energy.  I have vowed to fast at least 22 days this time around – all part of the blood detox experiment described in the web site.

On Saturday 6/26, I attended Rabbi Ted Falcon’s gathering at Unity Church in Lynnwood.  It was great to meet him, and I learned quite a few things from his service.

On Sunday 6/25, I was invited to by Rev. Joyce to address her congregation at Fairwood Community United Methodist Church.  Thankfully, it is close to my home.  The service was great and the people were tremendously friendly.  I was allowed to address the congregation for a few minutes, and, despite being slightly challenged with the microphone, I think I did a fair job of getting the message across.  Many people thanked me for what I was doing, and some seventeen signed up as supporters, and to receive the newsletter.

Now my challenge is to overcome the lack of energy I feel on this fast and continue to make full use of my time to promote the Seattle Peace Project.  Seattle is a big place, and there is only one of me.  If you are reading this, and you believe in the power of prayer and meditation, please lend a hand.  Up to now, Rabbi Falcon is the only person who has come to me because of the efforts of someone besides myself.  So far, not one church or temple has supported the project because someone other than myself had contacted them.  If everyone who hears this message can just approach a few religious groups face-to-face and ask them to participate, this project will achieve critical mass very soon.

PERSISTENCE WINS THE DAY

I have been as busy as I can be on the project, with all the time I could devote outside work and family obligations.  One Sunday, I went to Seattle Choezan Enkyoji Nichiren Temple in Chinatown and Koyasan Buddhist Temple.  Thanks to Master Cedarman and Rev. Taijo Imanaka for their cooperation. On Sunday the 4th, I went to Unity Church of Kent, where I addressed the congregation and had people sign up for the project.  Thanks to Rev. Becker for all her help.  On Sunday the 11th, I went to Unity Church of Lynnwood, where I received a royal welcome by Reverend Dr. Richard Loren Held.  He showcased the Seattle Peace Project in both his 9:00 and 11:00 sessions, and even did me the honor of interviewing me about the project before the entire congregation.  Many people signed up to give their support.  Afterwards, I was even featured in an interview on the number one holistic health podcast in the world, LEARN TRUE HEALTH with Ashley James.  It was an amazing day, and I met many new friends.  This gave me a much-needed boost, and many contacts I made at Unity Lynnwood have the potential to help us turn the corner, spreading the message to thousands of interested people.

I will have more time to spend on the project after next week, when I begin my summer vacation.  It so happens that this is also the window of opportunity for me to begin another long fast for the detox experiment.  Today is my first day without food.  I did a coronary calcium scan last week, which is a CAT scan to see how much calcium (in the plaque) is built-up in the coronary arteries.  I wanted to see first of all what my score was, and secondly whether the score for the test would fall after a long fast.  The score was zero, which is great news.  While this makes it impossible to prove that a fast can lower the amount of plaque in the coronary arteries, it is good anecdotal evidence that my habit of doing long fasts every few years can reduce or prevent blockage of the arteries.  It will require the assistance of another volunteer who already has a measurable score on the coronary calcium scan to prove that fasting can reduce atherosclerosis.
